Founded in 2008, the CONREPA Leadership Development Institute (LDI) has been empowering and connecting the next generation of Leaders of Color in psychology and mental health. It is the first leadership program of its kind to focus on creating the cross-racial coalitions – of both emerging leaders and organizations – needed to advance racial justice and the psychological well-being of all Communities of Color.
The LDI is sponsored by the Coalition of National Racial Ethnic Psychological Associations (CONREPA) in collaboration with the Society of Counseling Psychology (Division 17 of the American Psychological Association). CONREPA consists of the following national associations: American Arab, Middle Eastern and North African Psychological Association (AMENA Psy), Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA), Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi), National Latinx Psychological Association (NLPA), Society of Indian Psychologists (SIP), and the Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues – Division 45 of the American Psychological Association (APA).
OUR PRINCIPLES
CREATING RACIAL JUSTICE
Racial justice comes not only from fighting oppression but also from creating new ways of being, connecting and leading that are grounded in the strengths and histories of our communities and ancestors
DEEPENING COMMUNITY
Our connections with one another bring about the healing, safety, and trust that enable us to create community and envision the possibilities of cross racial solidarity
CULTIVATING EMPOWERMENT
Empowerment is fueled by the shared sense of purpose – within one’s community as well as across Communities of Color – that comes from shared struggle, shared pains and shared hopes.
